Moving Ahead on our Journey ...The Road Less Traveled

What a great, fun, exciting time in Nick's life this has been! We have grown from a dream to an idea to a thriving business in a few short weeks! First of all, we would like to thank the many people who have encouraged and supported us in our efforts to bring Nick's artism to people all over the country and soon...maybe all over the world! Nobody ever truly walks through this life alone...not successfully, anyway. Our gratitude to those who have moved Nick forward on his journey is overflowing, and the list is too long to print. You all know exactly who you are, and we love you.

Nick is certainly taking the road less traveled...even in this day and age, it seems unbelievable that adults with autism wind up sitting at home watching TV all day, losing all the wonderful skills they have worked so hard for in school. There just aren't enough employers out there who know that people like Nick can be productive, reliable workers and contributors to our society in many positive ways. So, with a little help from his friends, Nick has begun doing it for himself!

Building a business is a wonderfully busy and challenging task, and there is still much to be done so that many can easily purchase and enjoy Nick's beautiful notecards. For instance, at this writing, our only available form of payment is a check. Checks may be made out to Artism by Nick. Very soon (in the next few weeks, we promise!) we will have Paypal, so that you will be able to purchase his products with a credit card, debit card, or through your checking account, in a safe and simple way.

The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step... we are putting one foot in front of the other.

Nick in the Studio!

The mosaic that is us...a message from Mom

As Nick and I were working today, it ocurred to me what a metaphor his art is to his autism and his life, as well as all our lives. First, as with all people, no two of Nick's works are the same. Each is so unique in its own way...we only have to look closely to see the beauty there. So it is with all people. Second, we never know until we are finished what the end product will be. It is an ever-changing process and the beauty unfolds as we make a move, make a decision, take a risk. And third, just one piece on the paper is incomplete. It is only when all the pieces are enhancing each other interdependently do we see what is possible. So it is with Nick's life, and I think, with all of us. It truly takes a village, and with each person who touches our lives and each opportunity we're given, we create the mosaic, the collage that makes us unique.

Nick Goes the Distance!

Last year, Nick met a great challenge - running the Marine Corps Marathon 10K in Washington DC! It was so inspiring to watch Nick cross the finish line with his coach that Mom is challenging herself to be his running buddy this year. The race happens in October - Stay tuned!

from the heart

These are the cards that Nick has made for the attendees of a relationship seminar in Sausalito, California. Each person will receive a pack of four cards in exchange for a $20 donation for Nick. The theme is "From the Heart". Many thanks for this wonderful opportunity to our much adored friend, Holly.
