The mosaic that is us...a message from Mom

As Nick and I were working today, it ocurred to me what a metaphor his art is to his autism and his life, as well as all our lives. First, as with all people, no two of Nick's works are the same. Each is so unique in its own way...we only have to look closely to see the beauty there. So it is with all people. Second, we never know until we are finished what the end product will be. It is an ever-changing process and the beauty unfolds as we make a move, make a decision, take a risk. And third, just one piece on the paper is incomplete. It is only when all the pieces are enhancing each other interdependently do we see what is possible. So it is with Nick's life, and I think, with all of us. It truly takes a village, and with each person who touches our lives and each opportunity we're given, we create the mosaic, the collage that makes us unique.

Well hello Ellie and thank you for visiting the blog! We will have to get a photo of you up there! (For those of you who don't know, Ellie is Maggie's sister and the OTHER awesome cousin!)

Let's also get another picture of Nick's mom up there- minus the bird hat. "You're above all that" as Zariah says...

This is so not about me but...I'm sure we'll see another picture of mom sans bird hat eventually. Don't you like it? It's my favorite one. AND when you press the bird, it sings. (The eggs fell out of the nest though...I need some more). For anyone out there who doesn't know, this was a Halloween picture and I do not generally walk around in a bird hat.
